Johan Svendsen wrote several great adaptions of folk music for strings. These are all characterized by his tasteful harmonics. Far Away Star is one of the two Swedish folk songs published as op. 27 for strings in 1878.
It is important to have in mind the original string version when interpreting this instrumentation for wind instruments. This is particular important in terms of timbre and character.
Bjørn Mellemberg was for many years staff arranger for all professional military bands in Norway. Through this serie published by BM/Norsk Noteservice, many of these compositions and arrangements are are now available for other professional bands and amateurbands in Norway and abroad.
His skills made him both manager and conductor for the military bands. After being retired from the military service, he now gives lectures in methods, ensemble and conducting at the norwegian State academy of music. He is a well-recommended censor in major national and regional music competitions.
