The main theme from the movie with the same title, produced in 1962, directed by Blake Edwards and starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remmick in the leading roles. The composer is one of the great names in music for the movies, Henry Mancini, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The song won a Grammy Award for best movie theme.
This arrangement was made in 2006 and performed for the ﬁrst time by Suoni Wind Orchestra of Skiem, Norway at their Promenade Concert «Days of Wine and Roses». It was later recorded on their CD «Ambassador”. On both occasions it was conducted by the arranger, Øyvind Strand.
Øyvind Strand (b. 1956) is a composer, arranger, conductor and trombonist from Drangedal in Norway. Since late 1970s he has conducted Gimsøy Skolemusikk and from 1980 Musikkforeningen Suoni. Ha has also founded the Jazz Band Bratsberg Amt Jazzorkester.
From 1995 Strand has also conducted the choir Canto Libre for which he also arrange a lot of music. Both Musikkforeningen Suoni and Bratsberg Amt Jazzorkester has collaborated several times with Canto Libre performing the arrangements of Øyvind Strand. In addition to conduct these ensembles on permanent basiss, he is also a demanded guest conductor, lecturer and master of ceremonies.
He has been involved in several music festivals and unions. Among these are the Norwegian Band Federation, the union for all school- and amateur bands in Norway.
